The white house is now weighing in on the outcome of the disputed presidential election in Afghanistan.The runoff there was canceled this weekend, and the current president declared the winner.That decision clears one of the hurdles surrounding President Obama's looming decision over whether to send more us troops to the war torn country.Craig Boswell reports from Washington.President Obama says he personally called Hamid Karzai after Afghanistan's election commission declared Karzai the winner and named him to a new term.OBAMA says: "I emphasized that this has to be a point in time in which we begin to write a new chapter."The president says while congratulating Karzai he emphasized a need to see a serious effort to eradicate corruption.OBAMA says: "He assured me that he understood the importance and I said the proof was not going to be in words but in deeds."The first election in august was tainted by widespread allegations of fraud.The runoff election scheduled for Saturday was canceled after the only challenger Abdullah Abdullah dropped out.The run off "was" to be one of the key factors in whether president Obama would send in more u-s troops.The top us commander in Afghanistan warned without tens of thousands more us forces the war could be lost.Some lawmakers want that troop request filled now to help ensure a win.HUNTER says: "They know how to do it, they just need the tools to do it.
