Bethany Lutheran College is hosting a conference this weekend, where they'll discuss Lutheran Theology in Media. As News 12's Erick Lind tells us, the conference is also a homecoming of sorts for one of the featured speakers.Sean King grew up in western New York, but when he was looking for a college, he turned to Mankato, where he played basketball for Bethany Lutheran College. He got a little more than the education he planned on.That was 14 years ago and it's still giving him guidance.King says, "The school did a lot for me. I wouldn't say I didn't have my head on straight, but I needed a little guidance and this school did that, and continues to do that."While basketball brought King to BLC the first time, it's his screenwriting that is bringing him back to the campus as a featured speaker for this weekend's Christian Media Conference.BLC professor Dr. Tom Kuster says, "When we were planning the conference, looking for professionals who share our faith and can help us with our project. Art said, 'Hey Sean is working out in Hollywood. You should contact him.' We did and he seemed very happy to come."The Art that Kuster is referring to is Art Westphal, King's coach when he played for the Vikings. He still uses Westphal's advice today in Hollywood.King says, "He really made me realize that if you care about others more than yourself, believe in this whole team concept, you can go far in life and if you treat people with respect, be on time, treat people with respect everything will take care of itself."This weekend King is telling students how to change the thinking that you can't believe in God and make film.King adds, "That's what this conference is a little bit about. How do we change the stereotypes and put films out there with good messages."They hope they can get that message across throughout the weekend. In Mankato, Erick Lind, News 12.
