Younger Donors Help Fill Blood Supply

It was nearly two years ago that Governor Tim Pawlenty signed into law the minimum age for blood donation from 17 to 16.Red Cross blood drive supervisor Barb Guildner says Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota now allow 16 year olds to donate with parent permission.Guildner says they have seen great response from teens... like today's effort at Mankato Loyola. She says that is a good thing, because long time donors are becoming fewer.Guildner adds, "Our older group of donors is going down, so this is a new group coming up and they are 100 percent behind it."Teens do have to meet the minimum weight requirement of 110 pounds in order to give.
