The DFL party for the first congressional district held their first endorsing convention for the 2010 Election.News12's Caroline Rowland was in Owatonna and has more on the endorsements.The DFL party has made their decision and are standing behind Congressman Tim Walz..."I'm asking you today to endorse Tim Walz to work hard for our governor's candidates..."A number of top DFL Party members... including Senator Amy Klobuchar, turned out to show their support for Walz at today's convention.Senator Amy Klobuchar says, "When you look at the whole package here with the first district having such a broad economy from ag, to energy, to biotech, to health care, Tim Walz has really been involved in every piece of this. That's why I think he deserves to go back to Washington."Another reason... DFL House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher says it was Walz handling of the recently passed health care reform as well as their local ties to Mankato.DFL House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher says, "I just think he does an amazing job. I graduated from Mankato West, he teaches at Mankato West. As a teacher it's really something that's very important, education."Walz is seeking his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives.In the 2008 election he won with 62.5 percent of the vote.Representative Tim Walz says, "I think it's important to because of me personally but now we move our country forward on stable good policies that look towards the future and don't look back."State Rep. Randy Demmer, former state Senator Allen Quist, and Jim Hagedorn are all seeking the GOP Endorsement against Walz.As for the Governor's race, DFL Gubenotorial candidates also spoke to the delegates today too.Endorsements for that race will happen at the DFL State convention in late April.In Owatonna. News 12.Today's endorsement decision officially kicks off the ground campaign in the first district.Volunteers will hit the streets in Mankato to begin knocking on doors and calling their neighbors to continue building support for Representative Walz and the DFL Party.
