The primary season is winding down, and along with extra campaign stops and advertising, the top three DFL candidates came to Mankato tonight for a little old-fashioned debate.News 12's Ryan Gustafson was there, and joins us live in the newsroom with the story.There are only eleven days until the primary election, and tonight, the three remaining DFL candidates tried to separate themselves from their opponents.In a Lincoln-Douglas style debate at Ostrander Auditorium, Margaret Anderson Kelliher, the DFL endorsed candidate, former U-S Senator Mark Dayton, and former DFL leader in the House Matt Entenza took to the mics...Talking the budget, education, and what they felt were the qualities of leadership that could things done in a partisan world.Margaret Anderson Kelliher says, "Minnesotans don't wake up and think, I am a Democrat or Republican. They wake up and think how am I going to get my family further ahead. How can we do better? How can we make it?"Matt Entenza says, "There's always going to be people that say I want what is best for me. But leadership is about we. It is about us. It is about community."Mark Dayton says, "We should want to pay higher taxes because that means we're doing better and if we're doing better we have an obligation... all I'm asking is to pay their fair share - that's middle ground."Debate Minnesota sponsored tonight's exchange, with KTOE news director Pete Steiner and the St. Paul Pioneer Press's political reporter Jim Ragsdale serving as moderators.The style of the debate, essentially a series of three and two minute speeches didn't leave room for many fireworks, as the candidates focused mostly on their opposition to Republicans.The candidates now head toward the DFL primary... with the winner set to take on presumptive Republican nominee, Tom Emmer.Live in the newsroom, Ryan Gustafson, News 12.
