Vikings Camp Brings Boom to Business

It's only been two days since the Vikings invaded Mankato, and already it's been good for business.  Hotels are booked up, and restaurants and bars are booming.  News 12's Caroline Rowland has more.

Jill Ward's been telling hopeful Vikings fans one thing all day..."I'm sorry we're all sold out for tonight."  At the Americinn...the closest hotel to training camp, all 80 rooms sold out for tonight, and pretty much through the next couple weeks to some lucky Vikings fans.  Ward says,  "The rest of training camp we've got a couple rooms left but its pretty full, We have people now booking for next year."

These Vikings fans were lucky enough to get a room here, and are happy they stayed here.

The AmericInn isn't the only hotel in town that's sold out.   At the Hilton Garden downtown, you can't get a room for at least two weeks.  The Holiday Inn Express, Super 8, were all sold out for tonight, and the Country Inn and Suites said they had 90 percent of their rooms booked.  And because the rooms are mostly booked... some people have to stay outside of town.

Anna Thill says, "That's a good sign, when our hotels are full there are a lot more people coming to town. We're directing people to saint peter, Madelia, Owatonna, Waseca and so forth cause now it's pushing outside of greater Mankato."

It's not just about the hotels, but the bars and restaurants are also welcoming Vikings enthusiasts. At the Buffalo Wild Wings they said business has almost doubled.Anna says, "It's crazy just crazy, but we love it though. It's great exposure. for the community and we look forward to it every year. "As for the Americinn... they're already looking to next year.Jill Ward says, "We encourage you as soon as you know you're coming to camp, some people book a year in advance."
